Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach

Latin American Museum Long Beach CAThis museum, commonly known as MoLAA, houses an outstanding Latin American art collection with a focus on Caribbean, Central and South American contemporary art. In recent years it has begun to include Latin Art from Mexico and the United States.

It is an anchor building in the East Village Arts District of the city, located on Alamitos near 7th in Long Beach, California.  Since this photo, above, was taken the blue and cherry red walls have been repainted to a more subtle beige.  Inside if you want to take a break during your visit to the exhibitions there is a café and a museum store.

In a previous incarnation, this building was a skating rink with a very different façade. That building was converted into the original version of the museum, left. A few years later, the current geometric modern building was constructed, although much of the old skating rink, especially the floors, still exists inside.
