The classic brown
shingled home facing directly onto the Pacific is dwarfed by
newer mansions on this beachfront side of Ocean Blvd. on the Peninsula in Long
Beach. |
For decades the Peninsula neighborhood in Long Beach
consisted of mostly small, traditional shingled beach cottages and homes
at the far east end of Ocean Blvd. And there are still some old cottages remaining on this
narrow spit of land that faces the ocean on one side and Alamitos Bay
and Naples Island on the other side. Homes facing the ocean have a
view of Catalina Island, some 26 miles away and instant access to the
beach that is relatively little used by the public.

The homes on the Alamitos
Bay side of the Peninsula have spectacular views of Naples
Island and the snow-capped San Bernardino Mountains over 100 miles away. |
 |
The Leeway Sailing
Center is at the entry to the Peninsula. This is
where the Long Beach Department of Parks and Recreation gives
sailing, windsurfing and kayaking lessons. |

The Alamitos Bay Yacht
Club is at the very end of the Ocean Blvd. in the Peninsula
neighborhood in
Long Beach. |
