The Rose Park which gives this
neighborhood its name will soon have a gazebo at its
center where, decades ago, an earlier gazebo once
stood. This circular park is located at 8th and
Orizaba. |
Rose Park is one of the largest historic neighborhoods in
Long Beach. While it is locally designated as an historic
district because of the great number of Craftsman bungalows,
home owners are not necessarily eligible for the tax
benefits of the State of California Mills Act for historic
districts -- unlike California Heights.
 |
Rose Park is adjacent to Belmont
Heights and California Craftsman bungalows from the
1920s are on every street. Most of them have been
restored and are immaculately maintained. |
 |
Because Rose Park is
desirable as an historic neighborhood, on the main
thoroughfares, such as 7th and 10th streets, there is
multi-family housing. Some are in the Spanish
Revival styles, like the one shown in this photo,
and some built within the last few years.
