The classic brown shingled
home facing directly onto the Pacific is dwarfed by
newer mansions on the beachfront side of Ocean Blvd. on
the Peninsula in Long Beach. |
For decades the Peninsula
neighborhood in Long Beach consisted of mostly small,
traditional shingled beach cottages and homes at the far
east end of Ocean Blvd. And there are still some old
cottages remaining on this narrow spit of land that faces
the ocean on one side and Alamitos Bay and Naples Island on
the other side. Homes facing the ocean have a view of Catalina
Island, some 26 miles away and instant access to the beach
that is relatively little used by the public.
 |
The homes on the Alamitos
Bay side of the Peninsula have spectacular views of
Naples Island and the snow-capped San Bernardino
Mountains over 100 miles away. |
 |
The Leeway Sailing Center is
on Ocean Blvd. at the entry to the Peninsula. This is where the Long
Beach Department of Parks and Recreation gives sailing,
windsurfing and kayaking lessons. |
 |
The Alamitos Bay Yacht Club
is at the very end of the Ocean Blvd. in the Peninsula
neighborhood in Long Beach.
The club is, of course, private, but the beach area
along the Peninsula is public. |
