In the early 20th Century Long
Beach was a destination resort -- a place to escape the summer heat of
Los Angeles. Some homes in Belmont Heights and adjacent
neighborhoods were originally built as summer cottages, but by the 1920s homes
in Belmont Heights and nearby neighborhoods were built as
permanent year 'round residences. Many of the homes are in the
California Craftsman Bungalow style. This area became what many
call "Bungalow Heaven" because it has the most Craftsman bungalow style
homes of any area of Long Beach. You will also find Spanish
Revival and Mediterranean homes as well as charming cottage style houses
along the tree-lined streets in Belmont Heights. There are
also low-rise condos throughout the Heights.
Belmont Heights is less congested and significantly quieter than Belmont Shore or Naples Island and within a few minutes walk to the beach. A few blocks to the west of Belmont Heights is the charming, small neighborhood of Carroll Park. You can learn more about Carroll Park bungalows on this website. Yet another neighborhood with bungalows is Rose Park Historic District. Belmont Shore stops at Broadway where the narrow Bluff Park neighborhood begins. In Bluff Park estate size homes are significantly grander and more architecturally distinguished. You can see Bluff Park homes on this site. |
